I have posted below my previous comment on Mutual Funds. I hope, it would be somehow useful.

1. Mutual Funds are different type of investment instruments. But, we, as we are new to mutual funds, treat them as normal shares. Hence, we are concerned about its current price and that price too has been influenced by shares. So, it may take another couple of years to have a proper understanding about MFs in our market. Small amount, long-term and return at maturity are three basic features of MFs, whereas selling units in-between, say before maturity is just an option to use if compelling needs be there. If somebody is interested to read, may be it is better to surf: http://www.investopedia.com/university/mutualfunds/

2. Many among us even do not know the basics of MF and could not differentiate between balanced fund and growth fund. Without knowing the difference and without applying in our situation, we buy MF Units. We should understand, if we could handle our portfolios ourselves or through investment management companies, generally MFs are not for us. We should go for shares in the market directly. And, if we could not do so and we have quite a small amount to invest, MFs could be better options. If we opt for MF but could not take higher risk, then we should go for balanced fund like NBF1. But, if we could take a bit high risk, then growth fund are better like SIGF1. Hence, Nabil Balanced Fund is low risk/low gain, whereas Siddhartha Growth Fund is comparatively high risk/high gain among MFs, but both are low risk if we talk in comparison to company shares in general.

3. NBF1 is for 5 years. That time (or gradually before its maturity date) all its assets would be sold and the final proceeds would be divided equally per unit and paid back. That final payment would make the Fund empty and it gets terminated or closed.

4. The Fund managers start selling gradually much before than the maturity period and make it liquid by putting the money in short-term deposits in the banks. Hence, during the final 6 months, NAV may go marginally down. The shares do not come all of the sudden and they make a good spread while selling. Still, there is some risk that they may not empty their basket and if they sell a good quantity in last hour, it may influence in lowering price but that could be just nominal. In this case also, growth funds are slightly riskier than balance funds. Rarely, I have seen MFs selling their shares of larger quantity in auction.
