If they sign the treaty as is, we as a nation is screwed. Nepalese can only invest in hydro projects, IF AND ONLY IF, Indian companies allow us to. And also the Indian government will have full access to all water resources in Nepal. We will become Bhutan version 2.

Another thing about the 1950 treaty that India is desperately trying to amend is the part that says all treaties with the British will be annulled. Most significant part regarding the annulling treaty with the British? "Sugauli Sandhi" If you go through history of modern Nepal, this is the same treaty that handed 1/3rd of Nepal's land to the British. Technically if Sugauli Sandhi is annulled, we should be getting back all the land we have lost during the Anglo-Nepali war. IF we were to get back the land Nepal lost to the British, Nepal will have most of the control of the entire Himalayan range, i.e., the entire fresh water supply of the entire sub continent.

So you see why Indian government is so desperate to annul the treaty that is "unfair" to Nepal?

Nepali government knows the 1950 treaty and it's implications. However, these cowards will rather stay in power than do the right thing.
